How it Works
What are SAM & OIG?
The SAM (System for Award Management) and OIG (Office of Inspector General) exclusion lists are databases that contain the names of individuals or entities who have been barred from doing business with the federal government or participating in federal healthcare programs due to past violations or misconduct. These lists are used to ensure that individuals or entities receiving federal funding or providing healthcare services are not excluded or debarred from doing so.
SAM
To use the SAM integration, employers must first log in to their Credentially account and navigate to the Integrations page. From there, they can connect their SAM account to their Credentially account by entering their SAM API key. Once the SAM integration is set up, employers can request SAM checks directly from their Credentially account. The integration automates the SAM check process, making it faster and more efficient for you to verify compliance with federal regulations. You can run SAM checks on individuals that your are onboarding, ensuring that they are not on the exclusion list for any reason.
OIG
The Office of Inspector General is responsible for oversight of the Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS’s) portfolio of programs.
Credentially has direct integration with OIG, and allows checking if the user has active exclusion list records in the OIG database. The OIG has the authority to exclude individuals and entities from Federally funded healthcare programs for various reasons, including a conviction for Medicare or Medicaid fraud. The List of Excluded Individuals/Entities provides information to the healthcare industry, patients and the public about individuals and entities currently excluded from participation in Medicare, Medicaid, and all other Federal healthcare programs. In general, the users with active records on the OIG exclusion list are not recommended to be hired.
