About HUC
HUC is a Social Enterprise delivering integrated urgent healthcare services, including, Out of Hours, and NHS111 services to approximately 3 million people across Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Bedfordshire.
Founded in 2007, one of the focus areas for HUC is to help reduce unnecessary hospital admissions and to provide care as close to people’s homes as possible. With 27 Primary Care Centres across three counties, HUC also undertake home visits for patients unable to access these centres. HUC's mission is to provide a local, clinically-led range of services, giving patients 24/7/365 urgent care access in an Out-of-Hospital environment. Putting the patient at the start and heart of their care.
Time consuming processes
Like many Urgent Care providers across the UK, HUC was frustrated with time-consuming and manual processes associated with procuring, onboarding, and credentialing when recruiting clinical professionals. With the increase in demand on time and resources, HUC needed software that could automate processes and ease the burden placed on staff.
Automating hiring & credentialing processes
After discovering that Credentially could automate professional checks, including clinical registers, criminal records, and national body registrations, HUC implemented the innovative software within their organisation.
“Credentially has made our processes a lot slicker and drastically reduced the back and forth of emails. ”Highlights Luisa Gaiteri, Clinical Recruiter at HUC. Turning paper into data, automating evidence and tracking in real-time, has improved the onboarding experience for candidates as well as administrators. “It’s really easy for GP's to upload their documents when applying for a role, Credentially has really taken the pressure off and added value to our business.” Continues Luisa.
IR35 & Automated Questionnairs
Changes to IR35 - The off-payroll working rules set out by the UK Government, meant HUC needed to identify GPs who operate via their own limited company to ensure they were compliant with the regulation. Using the questionnaire functionality within Credentially HUC created a list of 26 questions based on the information required by HMRC, as Luisa explains “within two weeks of sending out the questionnaire, we had received all responses, we were able to determine the status of 230 doctors and submit the findings to HMRC.”
One central, feature-rich software
“GPs can use it after hours, and as our clinical leads are familiar with the system, they know when they see a message from Credentially it's significant and handled immediately. It also gives us a full audit trail, we can see who approved what and when – nothing slips through the net.” We've also discovered that GPs who are being onboarded recognise and embrace Credentially, particularly those who have transferred to HUC from CCAS (Covid Clinical Assessment Service). HUC uses Credentially's reference reminder feature as part of their onboarding process, which has proven to save time.
“Gaining references has become streamlined, with automated reminders switched on it has really helped increase the number of references we gain and significantly reduced the number of emails and calls back and forth.” The ‘daily digest,' according to Luisa and her team, is another significant aspect they like. “We can see all notifications and updates in real-time, so we'll know if someone's DBS has expired. Furthermore, because Credentially is linked to the GMC and NMC, we can examine the status of clinicians in real-time. We can see if someone has been struck off or has a warning, which is essential for keeping our patients secure.” Concludes Luisa, who, when asked to sum up Credentially in one sentence says, “I would be lost without it.”
